Awkwafina

American actor and musician Awkwafina made her debut with humorous songs that dealt with sexuality and racial identities with a boldly comedic perspective before broadening her reach to Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese-Korean immigrants who resided in Forest Hills Queens. Her first encounter with music was from the trumpet. She also received classical and jazz training later delving into hip-hop as a teenager. When she was in high school, she concentrated on journalism and woman's studies. She was also a student of Mandarin briefly in Beijing. Following graduation, she decided to pursue music as her main focus. In 2012, My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet hit and was included on her debut album Yellow Ranger. Some other hits that went viral included queef, a body positive song and the winking NYC Bitchecity tour. This latter song was directly tied to Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide for 2015, which was a travel guide. She opted to pursue acting as a profession after completing her first two projects, as an author and musician. In addition to early shows like Girl Code and Tawk she was also featured in movies such as Neighbors 2. Storks and Bad Rap. In the year 2018, her breakout roles included Dude Ocean's 8 as well as Crazy Rich Asians. The EP was released in June.
