
Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12 1988,) is a Canadian performer and actress. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to have won. O'Neil is well-known for her role in Syfy's science fiction series Dark Matter. O'Neil was famous for her performance in The Rookie as Officer Lucy Chen. O'Neil was judged in the bottom two spots and three finals. The judges were shocked by this , and they urged viewers to vote for Melissa for her singing talents. O'Neil's performances were constantly praised and O'Neil did not slip back into the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a contender to win the entire competition". O'Neil and Rex went on to make it to the second round of the competition on September 7 in 2005. After yet more impressive performance, Werner declared that "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away long live Queen". At the grand finale's final results show on the 14th of September on the 14th of September, 2005, O'Neil defeated Goudie to be crowned the third Canadian Idol, as well as being the first female winner, and (at 17) the youngest contestant in the show's history.
